Drawing on research into antiracist and decolonizing practices in the adult English classroom, this workshop will discuss ways we can make our volunteer training and events boldly welcoming and inclusive for people of non-dominant cultural groups and how to honor their backgrounds and knowledge, which are often overlooked in our society. You’ll receive examples and hear about lessons learned and tried in the classroom, and we will discuss how these practices can be applied to your organization.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought mental health conversations to the forefront. Even though we are having different experiences living through COVID-19, this time has been marked by isolation, fear, confusion, anger and so much more. Let‘s come together as volunteer engagement leaders to share our experiences, to share resources and coping strategies and to know that we are not alone.

MAVA Connections are informal, but highly interactive events, and will require you to be able to view the PowerPoint slides, use your audio to listen and microphone to speak to others. Please plan to join us from a setting that allows you to engage and participate fully.

Manifesting something meaningful and important is messy, but can come with wonderful gifts if you are open to receiving them. The gifts that come at the time of manifestation are easy to see and understand and quite honestly have become the focal point for most people and our societal expectations.

The challenge for us all is seeing the gifts that are offered along the path. The ones offered up by moving through impossible challenges, and the emotional roller coaster we ride throughout the process. Once we can see these as gifts, then accept them, we will find that they are the most valuable ones of all.

Melissa Dessart, Founder of Creators Space, shares her journey of Manifesting Creators Space and building a thriving, creative community. In this gathering, we will navigate the path of manifestation and steps to building a thriving and inclusive community.

This event is open to all, primarily focused on helping volunteer engagement leaders serving the East Metro to dismantle oppressive systems within their daily work practices.

Join us for a virtual presentation and conversation* on antiracism. During this webinar, presenters and participants will define and discuss important terms, including racism, white supremacy, white privilege and white fragility. We will also practice responding to instances of racism that may show up in volunteer programs using various practice scenarios. Participants will leave with resources to address and dismantle racism. This webinar welcomes those who are newer to conversations on race and those who would like to share their knowledge and experiences with others.

*We believe that dismantling racism requires conversation. Therefore, this webinar will be highly interactive and will require you to be able to view the PowerPoint slides, use your audio to listen and microphone to speak to others. Please plan to join us from a setting that allows you to engage and participate fully.
