St. Croix Valley Volunteer Leadership Network
Community Thread Volunteer Center collaborates with area organizations to create volunteer
opportunities that meet the needs of potential volunteers, and build a network of volunteer managers
who support one another, share resources, and find new ways to recruit and manage volunteers.
One way Community Thread accomplishes this is through the St. Croix Valley Leadership Network.
The network exists to strengthen local volunteerism by brainstorming ideas, exchanging information,
and empowering managers of volunteers. The network meets 5-6 times a year at various locations
throughout Washington County.

Meetings last 2 hours and vary in format including round table discussions, panel presentations, and
speakers. Past topics have included creating a culture of volunteer engagement, corporate volunteer
panel, and creative one-time or short-term opportunities for volunteer groups. Members of the group
help determine topics for future meetings.

The network is open to volunteer managers in Washington County and surrounding counties
including Ramsey and Dakota. Individuals interested in attending a meeting should contact Sara
Pennebecker ( at (651) 439-7434. Individuals can attend
the first meeting for free and then are asked to become an affiliate of the Volunteer Center. Affiliates
receive assistance with volunteer recruitment including access to our online volunteer database
(, volunteer management support, and special initiatives. A
nominal annual fee is required, but scholarships are available.
Members can share questions and comments by visiting the St. Croix Valley Volunteer Leadership Network Discussion Forum page.

“I really appreciate all the hard work Volunteer Center Staff put into the VLN meetings. I always take away at least one thing from the meeting and am bummed when I have to miss the meetings. Thank you for all that you do to make these great!” –Volunteer Center Affiliate
