Volunteerism Practices in Immigrant Communities in Minnesota
Research Summary
Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA)
From September 2008 through August 2009, the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) worked with Dr. Mai Moua of Leadership Paradigms, to study the volunteerism practices of three immigrant and refugee communities (Hmong, Latino, and Somali) in Minnesota. Relying on focus groups, interviews, surveys, and a literature review of volunteerism practices, the research found critical dynamics at play in understanding volunteerism practices and their implications in nonprofit organizations.
