Meet MAVA's 2018-19 AmeriCorps VISTA host sites

Krista Eichhorst

Nine dynamic organizations are hosting AmeriCorps VISTA projects through MAVA in 2018-19!

These organizations are located in the Greater Twin Cities metro and provide essential services in the areas of economic opportunity, education, healthy futures, and aging in place. Each project focuses on developing, improving, or expanding volunteer programs to increase the organization’s capacity to bring people out of poverty.

Additionally, MAVA will recruit a VISTA Leader housed at the MAVA office in Saint Paul to provide peer support and training to the members serving at these sites. We look forward to partnering with the following new and returning organizations:

Community Economic Assistance Programs (CEAP) - Brooklyn Center
Community Involvement Programs – Minneapolis
Interfaith Outreach – Plymouth
Jeremiah Program – Saint Paul
Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly - Minneapolis
Minnesota Children's Museum - Saint Paul
The Open Door - Eagan
Second Harvest Heartland - Maplewood
The Sheridan Story - Roseville

Do you know someone who may be a good fit for these projects? Direct them to the MAVA website or have them contact Krista Eichhorst via email or phone: 651-493-7724.

What is AmeriCorps VISTA

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) is a national service program that focuses on bringing individuals and communities out of poverty.

VISTA members serve full-time for 12 months on a specific project with a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus on helping organizations meet their mission more effectively and efficiently in areas such as education, healthcare, and workforce development.

In exchange for their service, members receive a living allowance set at the poverty level, health care allowance, training, and the choice of an end-of-service education award ($5,920) or stipend ($1,800). VISTA members may also hold part-time employment or attend school part-time with the approval of their site. For more info about AmeriCorps VISTA, please visit www.nationalservice.gov.
