July 2018

I need to start out thanking my Rural Volunteerism panel members for a great presentation at the MAVA Conference in June.  You all did such a great job and I learn more every time I listen to each of you.  A Big Thank You to: Alison Troldahl, seminar presenter, with Mankato Area Public Schools; Jackelyn Bekius, panel moderator, with Fairview Northland Medical Center; panel members: Monique Mendyke with Volunteers of America – Minnesota; Valerie Brown with Lakes and Pines, CAC; Cynthia McDonough, with Mahube-Otwa Community Action Partnership and Rebecca Harrington, UMN Extension.

The Northwest District Council is looking for a Council Chair.  We will be holding this first meeting in Crookston at the Golden Link Senior Center, 324 North Main Street, Crookston, MN, from 1 - 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24th.

The Southwest council area is composed of: Swift, Kandiyohi, Meeker, Lac qui Parle, Chippewa, Yellow Medicine, Lincoln, Renville, Lyon, Redwood, Murray, Pipestone, Cottonwood, Jackson, Nobles, Big Stone, McLeod and Rock county. The Nothwest is made up of Kittson, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Beltrami, Pennington, Red Lake, Polk, Clearwater, Norman, Mahnomen and Hubbard. If you work in any of the above counties in either Council area please plan on attending this first meeting.

A big congratulations to Second Harvest Heartland in Grand Rapids, MN on receiving their Service Enterprise Certification in June.  They were part of our Duluth cohort and a great organization to work with.  So proud of what they have accomplished over the past year and to be a part of it.

I had the opportunity to speak with volunteer engagement leaders in Little Falls and Virginia MN in June.  Thanks to the Minnesota Historical Society for inviting me to speak on “Recruiting the Right Volunteer.”  It is always great to travel around Minnesota and hear the great things volunteer leaders are doing in their communities.

Have a great Fourth of July and please contact me with any questions on our District Councils, trainings or opportunities to speak to your organization.
