Membership and Fund Development Manager
Position Overview

MAVA is looking for the right person to take our membership and fundraising to new levels through our new position of Membership and Fund Development Manager. The Membership and Fund Development Manager is responsible for growth and management of membership and fund development for MAVA. Specifically, the manager will develop and execute outreach strategies to maximize new member recruitment and current member engagement. The manager will deliver an annual Benevon model fundraiser and related MAVA open houses and will provide donor cultivation and appreciation.

Duties
1. Membership Recruitment (25%)
• Personally connect with potential MAVA members statewide through telephone and in person meetings; leverage technology to increase personal connection.
• Create and maintain active prospective membership pipeline and track recruitment efforts.
• Coordinate membership recruitment efforts of MAVA staff and volunteers. Work closely with membership committee and Services & Operations Manager to build on current recruitment efforts.
• Provide staff support to and work closely with volunteer membership committee to create membership goals and work plans in conjunction with membership committee and Services & Operations Manager.
• Along with other staff and volunteers, work with volunteer engagement networks and sectors to assess needs and gaps in service and to encourage MAVA membership and engagement in MAVA services and initiatives.
• Reach out to Minnesota nonprofits and governmental entities (municipalities, cities, counties) to market MAVA membership benefits.
• Work with Services and Operations Manager to develop and distribute membership marketing materials like hard-copy brochures, electronic collateral and e-newsletter articles.
• Conduct regular new member campaigns, in conjunction with membership committee and Services & Operation Manager.
• Attend volunteer recruitment events and other non-profit professional gatherings to recruit MAVA members.

2. Membership Retention (25%)
• Personally connect with every MAVA member at least annually; coordinate efforts to connect other MAVA staff and volunteers with new and lapsed members.
• Personally connect with soon to be lapsed members and lapsed members; phone and e-mail expired members to encourage and assist them to renew their membership.
• Enhance member retention through member communication and outreach strategies.
• Develop systems and metrics to capture and evaluate qualitative and quantitative membership engagement.
• Work with MAVA staff (particularly Services & Operations Manager) and professional development committee to oversee website improvement; update website resources and materials; assure that website has maximum benefit to members.
• In conjunction with Services & Operations Manager, recruit member participation in all webinars, training programs, annual conference, annual meeting, MAVA connections and all other MAVA events.
• Conduct annual membership satisfaction survey and distribute written results summary.
• Ensure preparation and distribution of informational membership packets to prospective members, new members and renewing members.
• Provide monthly reports to staff and board regarding new memberships, lapsed members, retention rates and other membership information.

3. Fund Development (50%)
• Coordinate all details for annual fundraising event. Recruit table captains and other volunteers. Coordinate table captain kick-off event and conduct table captain appreciation event.
• Coordinate all details for 6-10 annual open houses. Recruit hosts and guests.
• Maintain donor database; assure timely written acknowledgement of all gifts.
• Manage billing of multi-year donors; assure accurate records.
• Create and steward meaningful individualized donor communication, taking into account donor preferences. Plan donor recognition events.
• With executive director, solicit donors for challenge gifts and to join multi-year giving circles.
• Work with bookkeeper to track donor gifts, multi-year gifts and “bad debts”.

Required Skills and Competencies:
• Broad understanding of the field of volunteer management.
• Proven experience supervising volunteer/interns.
• Proven experience launching and coordinating complex projects.
• Experience with fund development strategy, donor stewardship, and stakeholder marketing and communications
• Excellent oral and written communications skills.
• Skilled in utilizing technology-based member and donor management systems.
• Ability to delegate and work efficiently.
• Outgoing and dynamic.

Reports to: MAVA Executive Director
Status: Exempt. Fulltime. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Location: The MAVA office is at full capacity; must have adequate home office. Some MAVA office sharing may be available.
Hours. This is an exempt level position.
