Frequently Asked Questions on the VISTA Host Site Application

1. How does mileage reimbursement for the VISTA member work?  Do I need to pay the VISTA's mileage into work each day?

VISTAs usually go by the same mileage policy as the host site.  Our policy at MAVA is to pay any mileage above and beyond the normal mileage to/from work.  So not only do we not pay mileage to/from work, we don’t start reimbursing until the person has driven more miles than they normally would to get to work.  Other sites of ours just don’t reimburse for wherever the first place you go in the morning is.

2. What will the reporting requirements be?

We will ask the host site/VISTA to report on the milestones we have listed as well as any milestones added by the host site.  In addition, there is some reporting on some general information that the corporation asks for, hours and numbers of volunteers and any in-kind or monetary donations that the VISTA member secured, and trainings attended by the VISTA member.  We report on this information quarterly.  Also, we ask the host site to complete a 6 month review with the VISTA member.
