MAVA PUBLIC AFFAIRS INFORMATION
Here are some websites which may provide helpful
information. We will be updating this information as more sites are located.
CENSUS 2010
http://www.mnparticipationproject.org/index.php/census
But first: why should nonprofits get involved in the Census?
Every constituent of your organization that is not counted in the Census
diminishes local funding and dilutes representation in state and federal
government. The compounded effect of this is a structural shortchanging of community
funding and representation that can undermine your organization’s mission and
the people you serve. It places increased pressure on communities that, in many
cases, are already unable to meet the demand for programs and services.
MINNESOTA COUNCIL OF NONPROFITS (MCN)
http://www.mncn.org/policy_tools.htm
MCN provides a lot of information regarding public policy
issues on their website. They discuss rules regarding lobbying and advocacy.
You can even sign up to receive their legislative updates for free.
LOCATE YOUR LOCAL ELECTED OFFICIALS
http://www.lwvmn.org/EdFund/Election.asp
You can contact those who represent where your organization
is located and where you reside. Please note that MAVA does not endorse or fund
campaigns, we are neutral.
INTERESTED IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS?
We are actively seeking individuals to join the Public
Affairs Committee or the Public Affairs Task Force. The committee will be more
actively involved in developing and creating policy whereas the task force will
contact their local elected officials about pending legislation. Please send us
an email if you are interested in joining either group.
If you have more sites that we should add, please let us
know. Thanks!
