WHAT a leadership volunteer is
HOW to incorporate leadership volunteers into an organization's structure
Understand what makes for a successful leadership volunteer experience.
Identify one place in your organization where a leadership volunteer position could be implemented making a real difference in program delivery and results.

Trainer John Pribyl has an extensive background in recruiting and working with leadership volunteers.

John designed and implemented the first federally funded Senior Companion Program in Minnesota. One of his most successful initiatives was creating volunteer staff leadership roles to serve clients.

John served on many national boards and committees to further develop the role of seniors as a resource to their communities. He's received his MA from the University of St. Thomas.

MAVA and Dr. Mai Moua of Leadership Paradigms embarked on a study to learn about volunteerism practices in Somali, Hmong and Latino communities. Relying on focus groups, interviews, surveys and literature, the research found critical dynamics at play in understanding immigrant volunteerism practices and a need for nonprofit organizations to be more flexible in their practices and perspectives when engaging immigrant volunteers.

“Millennials- Incorrigible or Innovative? “A Fresh Look at Generation Y”

Millennials are volunteering in record-breaking numbers. Born in the 1980's and 1990's, the generation of Facebook, cell phones and N'Sync are also quickly becoming the generation of service, with 30% volunteering regularly in Minnesota. This workshop is designed for volunteer managers and/or for those working with Millennials on a daily basis. As a new generation of volunteer managers takes on a new generation of volunteers, the opportunity to learn more about different learning styles, motivations and work ethic becomes imperative. Join us for a close look at this up-and-coming generation - what motivates them to volunteer and how your organization can capture their skills and talents through volunteerism in this interactive session.

Mary Jane Horton, Community Outreach Coordinator at Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) and Volunteers of America RSVP.

Mary Jane Horton is an AmeriCorps VISTA member assigned to Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration as an Outreach Coordinator. Mary Jane also works as an Outreach Coordinator for RSVP, matching adults 55+ with meaningful volunteering opportunities. Mary Jane is a licensed Social Worker and holds a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Social Work and Sociology.
